New NSAI Certified Thermal Modellers for Technical by Quinn Team

12th July 2019

The Technical by Quinn Team has further bolstered their expertise with two team members recently qualifying for the NSAI Approved Thermal Modellers Scheme.

Raymond O’Reilly and Charlie Kane both completed exams recently to achieve their qualifications, with Raymond completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Thermal Bridge Assessment in Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) and Charlie successfully completing the NSAI Approved Thermal Modellers Scheme examination. Both Raymond and Charlie are now listed on the NSAI Thermal Modellers Register.

Speaking of the achievement, Quinn’s Specification and Product Development Manager, Jason Martin, said,

“Our industry is slowly coming to terms with the fact that correctly addressing thermal bridging is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve the energy performance of our buildings. Moving away from default values and using cleverly designed junctions together with calculated thermal bridging factors based on ‘as modelled’ Psi values, offers huge reductions in energy usage and associated CO2 emissions within the BER calculation.

We have long been an advocate of using a fabric first approach and with nZEB now upon us, demanding even lower energy buildings, addressing thermal bridging is more important than ever before.

In Quinn Building Products, we have some of the best technical resources available to the Irish construction industry. To have in-house qualified Thermal Modellers working directly with Architects and Specifiers is something which very few manufacturing companies can offer and further demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the very best technical knowledge and skills to assist them.”

Thermal modelling is a complex process which demands an understanding of applied building physics principles and an ability to use a variety of inter-related calculation software applications to measure performance in two- and three-dimensional assemblies. Its correct use is central to energy-efficient & healthy sustainable building design and to achieving long term performance of new build and retrofit building solutions.

Irish Architects and Specifiers will benefit from the support of Quinn’s Thermal Modellers who will add to their existing suite of Accredited Construction Details, modelling 2-D and 3-D building elements using the latest software technology. The Quinn team can also provide useful advice on how to use clever detailing to achieve superior performance in building design and easily achieve nZEB and Passive House standards.
