Quinn Donate Insulation to Haiti Orphanage Project

23rd January 2019

Quinn Building Products has lent its support to the Haiti Orphanage Project ESPWA (HOPE) in its Christmas Appeal by donating 32 packs of Quinn Lite Pac EPS insulation for the refurbishment and re-roofing of an orphanage in Kenscoff, Haiti.

The orphanage, which is home to over 400 children and young adults, has issues with cold bridging in the walls and roof space and the donated insulation will help to provide a more suitable and comfortable living space for the residents. ESPWA (meaning hope in Creole) is a registered Irish non-denominational, non-governmental and non-political charity dedicated to providing facilities and implementing best practice for disadvantaged children in Haiti.

Quinn Building Products’ Fintan Coyle explained why the company chose to support the charity and their efforts to improve living conditions in the orphanage, saying,

“We’re delighted to support the work of ESPWA in Haiti. I’ve visited the area recently and have seen the fantastic work this charity does first hand. In this particular orphanage, there are over 400 residents and more than 40 of these are children with severe disabilities.

Every donation makes a difference to the lives of the under privileged locals and as a company we wanted to contribute in a practical and meaningful way. We look forward to hearing about the progress of the orphanage and seeing the final, newly-roofed facility.”

About ESPWA

ESPWA has been providing services in Haiti since 2011. Since April 2015, ESPWA volunteers have been travelling a number of times per year to an orphanage in Kenscoff, run by Gena Heraty, a Mayo native, to improve the infrastructure within the complex.

Gena has been volunteering in Haiti since 1993 and is now the Director for special needs children at the Orphanage. She received the Leinster House Human Dignity Award in 2016 for her lifelong dedication to the most vulnerable people of Haiti.

ESPWA is half way through a programme of work planned for this orphanage which will take up to 10 years to complete. As part of this programme (to date) ESPWA has sent 13 container loads of much needed medical supplies, equipment and humanitarian goods and hundreds of children and families have benefited.

ESPWA has also mobilised projects that employ local men and women to help with the construction work, with the intention of training and also creating employment and income for the local village and surrounding areas.
