Quinn launches new careers programme with St. Michael’s College

17th January 2018

A new careers initiative aimed at developing the skills of pre-college students was launched by Quinn Industrial Holdings this week, which will enable students from St. Michael’s College, Enniskillen, to explore opportunities and develop their skills in a variety of disciplines.

The Programme aims to improve students’ employability by providing hands on experience in the workplace, and allows them to gain valuable skills to help with career choices and progression.
The launch of the Programme took place in St. Michael’s College this week, when students heard details of opportunities from Human Resources, Marketing, IT and Quinn’s Technical Department, before having the chance to speak to members from a variety of departments about potential career routes.

The Programme includes careers workshops, followed by workplace placements in Quinn Building Products and Quinn Packaging. The work placements available to students cover a broad range of career options, with a particular focus on STEM related disciplines. They include Electrical, Chemical and Mechanical Engineering, Marketing, IT and Finance.

Speaking of the Programme and the opportunities available, Quinn’s HR Manager, Caroline McCaffrey said,

“As a large employer in the region, we have a responsibility to help support and develop the talent and skills of local young people. We have worked closely with St. Michael’s College over the years, building a long-term partnership which enables us to provide a wealth of industry experience, helping guide people on their career path, as well as gaining valuable experience in their chosen field.

This Programme will enable local students to explore the opportunities open to them, and will help to promote careers in STEM related disciplines, an area which there is a high demand for skilled people, and which presents a host of career opportunities.”

Sean Carlin, Head of Careers at St. Michael’s College, welcomed the collaborative Programme, stating,

“We are delighted to partner with Quinn Industrial Holdings again in this new Careers Programme. We have had many students enjoy successful work placements in both Quinn Building Products and Quinn Packaging, which has been valuable in helping shape their career choices. Collaboration with local business is essential to providing our students with real-life, industry learning and experience, and to have the opportunities available which Quinn provide is invaluable to our students.”
