Quinn reach UK Finals of Health and Safety Awards and host first external MPANI Committee Meeting

6th September 2019

Quinn Building Products have recently been announced as the only Northern Ireland company to make it through to the UK finals of the Mineral Products Association Health and Safety Awards 2019 in the Behavioural Safety, Safety Culture and Leadership Award category.

Quinn have two separate entries Shortlisted for the Awards, with the awards ceremony to be held in London in November.

Quinn’s Safety Hub entry was subject to a site visit by a judge appointed by the MPA, who attended the Quinn facilities to see the Safety Hub in practice and to interview a number of personnel about the set up and impact of the initiative.

The MPA Awards achievement comes just weeks after two Quinn initiatives were shortlisted for awards in the British Precast Awards 2019, with Quinn Precast Bed Saw Enhancement Project named highly commended in the Health and Safety Award category.

News of the latest achievement came as Quinn prepared to host its first MPANI Health and Safety Committee meeting, which usually takes place at the organisation’s own premises in Co. Antrim.

The Committee gathered at the Quinn Innovation Academy in August to discuss health and safety matters affecting the whole industry and to hear submissions from HSENI’s Ken Logan, MBE and Quinn’s Health and Safety Manager, Gerry Clancy, who spoke about the Quinn Safety Hub and demonstrated how the initiative has benefitted the company, employees and contractors since its introduction in 2018.

Speaking after the MPANI Committee meeting, Gerry Clancy commented,

“The response today to our new Safety Hub has been extremely positive. It’s important that we as an industry share our successes and good practice when it comes to health and safety matters. The current drive by the entire industry to work towards a zero-harm position is encouraging and a collaborative approach will benefit all involved in working toward this goal. We’re already able to demonstrate the successes of our Safety Hub, which we launched last year, and we’re very happy to showcase this as a best practice digital innovation in the health and safety space.

To have our health and safety initiatives recognised by the industry and to be shortlisted in the wider MPA Awards, is a great achievement for us, and is testament to our commitment to continual improvement in our drive to ensure the safest possible working environment for everyone here at Quinn.”
