Quinn Industrial Holdings’ award-winning partnership with St. Michael’s College continues to offer students valuable work experience with six of the College’s students availing of paid work placements with Quinn over the summer.
The students were each given a role in a different area of Quinn’s operations, spread across Quinn Therm, Quinn Packaging, Quinn Cement, Quinn Precast, Quinn Tarmac and the company’s Finance Department.
The different roles entailed a range of tasks and training which were designed to give students a strong understanding of the workplace environment and a good insight into the various career paths on offer at Quinn.
A number of students worked alongside experienced Engineers assisting with maintenance, repairs and installation of equipment, and a range of technical and mechanical duties. They also had the chance to work with state of the art technology and systems in the various sites, including stock management and accounting software, as well as the Quinn Safety Hub system.
Speaking of the summer placements, Quinn’s Human Resources Manager, Caroline McCaffrey said,
“We were delighted to welcome more students from St. Michael’s to join us this summer and gain some real life workplace experience. The students have had the opportunity to gain valuable practical experience in their time here, completing tasks which will be very important in their chosen career paths, so this gives them a sound knowledge of what to expect in those future roles.
They’ve shadowed experienced, qualified personnel working in STEM related roles, which are most relevant to the individuals’ chosen field. The students have had a busy summer and have all worked very well with our teams, so now they’ve had the chance to experience the diversity of opportunities we can offer, we hope to see some of them return in the future. In the meantime, we wish them well in their continued studies.”
